Romanian scientist, Eugen Pavel claims that a
"hyper-CD-ROM" with 10 tera-bytes (10,000 giga-bytes) of storage
could be available within a year.
The new technology is based on the recording
of data on fluorescent photosensitive glass
disks. Unlike normal CD-ROMs, which are
only written on a single layer, the fluorescent
technology should allow data to be written
on over 10,000 layers. Furthermore, it should
be stable for at least 5,000 years. |
